CHILDREN are growing fatter as they progress their way through school, according to new figures.Try enforcing child abuse and neglect laws - everywhere.
Statistics show that of 1,167 pupils in reception year in East Staffordshire 10.9 per cent are obese, while in South Derbyshire 8.8 per cent of the 968 youngsters are overweight.
But by the time children reach Year 6, obesity levels have rocketed to 18.4 per cent in East Staffordshire and 17.3 in South Derbyshire.
Now health experts have warned more needs to be done to combat the problem among primary school children, which can affect them in later life.
