Indeed! As I certainly do not have to tell you, but have you really looked carefully of late at what we call groceries at the local Jewel? Processed "foods" loaded with ungodly amounts of salt, fat, and lists of chemical additives so long that would cause most chemistry professors to stammer out of breath.
And we eat this stuff! Frankly, I'll take a fresh fillet of northwest salmon and sauteed bell peppers and brown mushrooms-such as I prepared this morning.
As we discussed the other day,leaders are not leading on this issue. Diabetes is rampant in the black community where fat from chazer is basic to the diet as if it were mother's milk. I taught in an all-black school for four years where the great majority of kids ate cheetos for lunch. the only "food store" in the area was a corner liquor store which sold the cheetos to the kids. if you look for a jewel or dominicks in these areas, forget about it ... or at least that's the way it used to be twenty five years ago ...
