"Getting enough sleep -- but not too much -- may be a safeguard against type 2 diabetes, new research in the journal Sleep Medicine shows...Not the end of the Goldilocks sleep story.
After adjusting for several factors that could affect both sleep duration and diabetes risk, such as physical activity level, age and smoking habits, Chaput and his colleagues found that people who got six hours of sleep or less a night were 2.78 times more likely to develop IGT or full-fledged type 2 diabetes during the course of the study, while risk was 2.54 times greater for people sleeping nine hours or more."
"When the researchers adjusted the data to factor out the influence of excess body weight indications, such as waist circumference, percentage body fat, and body mass index, the link was weakened somewhat, suggesting that obesity was a factor in the relationship as well."Ah ha!
End of story.
Sleep tight.
