OVERWEIGHT children and their families are to get personal trainers in the latest NHS bid to tackle Scotland’s obesity crisis.Using taxpayer dollars (pounds) is criminal.
Under the £50,000 taxpayer- funded scheme youngsters as young as five will be referred by their GP to a trained healthy lifestyle coach.
They will undergo a personalised eight-week fitness programme, with relatives also participating in the sponsored sessions.
The growth in awareness of the benefits of fitness and the dangers of obesity has led to a surge in demand for private personal fitness trainers.
Not long ago, athletes were the only ones using personal trainers....
But the NHS Lothian scheme is thought to be the first publically funded project of its kind in Scotland.
Each trainer will help six youngsters at a time and put them through physical exercise depending on the level of need.
