Holy adipose, Fatman! Call Commissioner Gordo! To the Fatmobile!
On Monday, the Galesburg Hospitals’ Ambulance Service unveiled a new bariatric ambulance designed to transport patients suffering from obesity, a medical condition that has grown nationally and locally.Make sure the fatsos are charged more for the increased costs.
The new ambulance is equipped to handle patients from roughly 350 pounds up to 1,600 pounds. The rig is not only wider but comes with a ramp with a winch lift and a larger cot, which will make it easier for responders to place overweight patients inside the ambulance.
Ambulance officials said the purchase of the new vehicle is in response to the increasing number of calls they receive involving obese patients, and the potential risks for responders lifting overweight patients.
