"The Task Force for a Comprehensive Obesity Prevention Initiative, created by the 2007 Legislature, released a report today showing that obesity among Oregon adults and children is increasing at alarming rates and calling for investments in science-based prevention programs...No, Mary Lou, it is "a problem of willpower or personal character" and instead of "calling for investments in science-based prevention programs," how about calling for a truthful appraisal of the matter first?
'Obesity is not a problem of willpower or personal character. People are not all that different than they were 30 years ago. What has changed is how and where we live,' said Mary Lou Hennrich, MS, BSN, a member of the task force and executive director of Community Health Partnership: Oregon's Public Health Institute."
Until then, no approach will ever work.
