Kudos, fatsos.
"Excess body weight is a risk factor for recurrent venous thromboembolism, according to the results of a study reported in the August 11/25 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine."
Venous thromboembolisms are
blood clots that have a nasty habit of making people
sick or dead.
"The prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased in the United States, with one third of people being overweight and another one third being obese. Excess body weight is a risk factor for venous thromboembolism in both medical and surgical patients, demonstrated in the Nurses Health Study and in other studies. The mechanism of increased risk is not known, but obesity may predispose to venous stasis and alterations in the coagulation system including impaired fibrinogen activity. Venous thromboembolism is a common disease, with a prevalence of 1.4 per 1000 person-years and a recurrence rate associated with 5% mortality rate and morbidity associated with the postthrombotic syndrome."
Can you say, "Oink. Arrgh. Help me."?
