Vitamin C may blunt effect of chemotherapy: study

Still think they know what a "healthy" supplement is?
"Vitamin C supplements may undercut the effectiveness of cancer drugs including Novartis' Gleevec, a U.S. study published on Wednesday showed.

When used on human cancer cells treated with a form of vitamin C in lab dishes, chemotherapy drugs killed 30 percent to 70 percent fewer tumor cells than usual, the scientists wrote in the journal Cancer Research...

'The vitamin C didn't neutralize the effects of the chemotherapy drugs, but it blunted their effects,' Heaney said in a telephone interview...

'Vitamin C is something everyone needs to have in their diet or you develop scurvy. But I don't recommend taking supplemental vitamin C during that period of time that my patients are receiving chemotherapy,' Heaney added."
The point?

No one knows what these things will do, especially in combination with all the other thousands of different substances that get into the bodies of the over 6 billion people on the planet.

Figuring that out is just too complex and beyond our abilities.

Nutritional fitness, and by extension health, is best-related to BMI and BMI is related only to Calories in, Calories out.

How you get to a BMI of between 18.5 and 24.9, where statistically speaking your "health" is best, is your choice, but relying on anything but the balance of Calories is just plain stupid.

And will fail you with virtual certainty.
