"MEDICARE should help pay for obese Australians to attend weight-loss classes, a leading Queensland Health bureaucrat has recommended. And we know how well WeightWatchers works.
Dr Linda Selvey, who heads the population health branch, said the national health system should recognise obesity as a chronic disease, allowing treatment to be covered by Medicare, The Courier-Mail reports.
Even commercial programs such as Weight Watchers should attract rebates when overweight patients were referred by a GP, she said."
No wait, whores travel in threes.
"The proposal drew immediate fire from the Australian Medical Association, which argued Medicare rebates should be reserved for visits to a medical practitioner."The docs gotta get their bucks for the slam-bang job they have done up 'til now.
Oh, my word. There is something in this article for everybody!
Here are more kudos to the fatsos.
"In other evidence to the hearing, fellow researcher Professor Theo Vos warned that the nation's obesity problem was so serious and difficult to address that it was likely to produce a three-fold increase in diabetes in the next 30 years - rising from 1.1 million cases to 3.6 million. And it will likely happen elsewhere, too.
Professor Vos also predicted a 400 per cent increase in health expenditure on diabetes in the same period."
The only real solution is to allow the fat to enjoy the consequences of their caloric decision-making and have them pay for themselves when they develop diseases of choice.
