In the U.S., diabetes is a common, chronic condition that affects 12.6 million people - 10.8% are women aged 20 years or older, according to estimates by the American Diabetes Association. Diabetes can affect a woman's sexual function in various ways, including vascular changes in the urogenital tissues that affect lubrication, and changes in genital arousal response. The researchers state that diabetes medication and other interventions linked to monitoring or treating the disease may also adversely affect sexual function.
