"Boosting calcium consumption spurs weight loss, according to a study published in the most recent issue of the British Journal of Nutrition, but only in people whose diets are calcium deficient..."Spurring food intake," eh?
Angelo Tremblay and his team at Université Laval's Faculty of Medicine made the discovery in a 15-week weight loss program they conducted on obese women. The participants consumed on average less than 600 mg of calcium per day, whereas recommended daily intake is 1000 mg. In addition to following a low calorie diet...
'Our hypothesis is that the brain can detect the lack of calcium and seeks to compensate by spurring food intake, which obviously works against the goals of any weight loss program,' said Angelo Tremblay, holder of the Canada Research Chair in Environment and Energy Balance. 'Sufficient calcium intake seems to stifle the desire to eat more,' he added."
Well if they ate more, then those who gained weight must not have been following the same "low calorie (sic) diet as those who lost the weight.
That is, they consumed a greater number of Calories.
And this report is from the place where the research was conducted.
Shameful.
In any event, look to Big White and its IMHO Big Lie Machine to twist this into a "drink (Calorie-containing) milk to lose weight" campaign, even though the research used (non-caloric) "calcium tablets."
