"Although keeping the weight off helped prevent osteoarthritis in the knees, losing weight did little to keep it from progressing in patients who already had it, researchers here found. You screwed up your joints so bad that even losing the weight won't help.
Among 2,623 older people followed in a prospective study, no association was found between body mass index (BMI) and progression of osteoarthritis of the knee in those with the disorder at baseline, reported David T. Felson, M.D., M.P.H., of Boston University, and colleagues in the March 15 issue of Arthritis Care & Research.
On the other hand, in high-risk patients who did not have osteoarthritis in the knee at baseline, lower BMI was a strong predictor of remaining disease-free, the researchers found."
