Skipping Breakfast Counterproductive for Teens Concerned about Weight

Probably not. Too many Calories in is.
"Teenagers who start the day with breakfast may be less likely to gain weight than those who skip the meal, researchers found."
But they all do, anyway.

And the differences are minimal.
"Increasing breakfast frequency was consistently associated with lower body mass index regardless of adjustment for other factors at both baseline and five years later. The BMI findings included:

  • 21.9 kg/m2 for daily breakfast eaters compared with 22.4 kg/m2 for those who ate the meal intermittently (P<0.05)>2 for those who never ate breakfast (P<0.01)>
  • 23.7 kg/m2 for daily breakfast eaters compared with 24.2 kg/m2 for those who ate the meal intermittently (P<0.05)>2 for those who never ate the breakfast (P<0.05)>
  • BMI increase was 1.7 kg/m2 among those who ate daily breakfast compared with 1.9 kg/m2 for intermittent eaters and 2.2 kg/m2 for those who never ate breakfast, although neither comparison was significant."

If you do not overconsume Calories from hunger, then when, how much and what you eat are irrelevant.

It is only about the Calories.

Eat less than you burn and you must lose weight.
