Living in the Shadows: Illiteracy in America

More to do with overfat than you may think at first blush.

"...7 million Americans are illiterate, 27 million are unable to read well enough to complete a job application and 30 million can't read a simple sentence."

Much of the way too fat epidemic is due to the even more prevalent problems of innumeracy and stupidity.

Combining the three, in whatever proportions, leaves us vulnerable to the propaganda of Adipo-prah (and here and here), Mehmet Oz, David Katz, David Zinczenko (as well as Rodale) Jorge Cruise, the government, the sick care industry, the media, etc.

Simply put we cannot, so we do not, think.

So a behemoth like Oprah offers diet advice and is listened to.

So a behemoth like Oprah chooses diet experts who are listened to, despite the fact that they have failed her.

So fat people like Dr. Phil offer diet advice and are listened to.

So fat people like Barry Sears sell diet books and products that get purchased.

So fat people like Kelly Brownell are involved in fat policy decision-making.

This opens the door to the predators, liars and cons.

Protect yourself.

And take the predators down.
