Multipronged approach needed to get teens moving
Clearly not true.
A "multipronged" approach is not "needed."
What is needed are responsible, i.e., non child abusing parents/guardians to step up and step up, thus setting an example for their children.
There is blame and it is squarely on parents/guardians who do not care enough about raising healthy children so they abuse them by overfeeding them.
There is no doubt that instilling an ethic of physical activity in children is good.
Schools and others can help.
But it is not their responsibility.
And even if it is, for the sake of argument, in their absence it is still the responsibility of parents/guardians to get the job done.
As an example, in many countries it is not the responsibility of the schools to instill a religious ethic in the children. It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians.
This is no different.
If there is an ethic parents/guardians want their children to have, and there is no other place providing it, do it yourselves.
Shut up.
Stop whining.
Stop the child abuse.
Stop blaming others.
Be the grown-up.

Dear Dr. Michael,
You've hit the nail squarely on the head, but it is so much easier if begun early-in the crib as it were. Good nutrition and responsible eating is not unlike learning to speak and read well. It begins the same day when parents bring their darling home from the hospital.
Tragically, many, too many kids are never held as babies, never read to, never hear one grammatically correct sense, never eat a stalk of broccoli ... ad infinitum, and we all pay a dear price for it!
Sweet, happy, and HEALTHY New Year!
Alan
Oops,
"Good nutrition and responsible eating is not unlike learning to speak and read well."
Speaking of good grammar, kindly replace "is not unlike" with "are not unlike ..."
:)

Darn, flawed proof-reading skills!
Scratch "sense". Substitute "sentence".
Indeed, my wife and I are denizens of Starbucks; the new one by Slice is rather nice. Its proximity to Slice is brilliant; the only thing lacking is kosher pastries; then again, per our discussions, the local yidden need more kosher sweets like a loch en kop!
